yamaha g1 crank bearings ?
would like to know if you have to split the cases to change out the crank bearings?

Yes, replacing the bearings requires splitting the crankcase and using press tools to remove and install the bearings. I highly recommend you get a repair manual to guide you through the process:

Thanks for the answer. I don't know for sure yet if i need to replace them but will when I strip it down for seals.
